And it is that, although at first glance it may seem that that quilt or that quilt is clean, without us noticing it, over time dust mites, sweat and other substances accumulate that can cause respiratory problems and make it difficult to rest at night. .
To keep the garments in good condition and extend their useful life, it is important that the washing and drying process is carried out correctly, only then will we ensure that they are kept in optimal condition.

Recommendations for washing bedding

Depending on the composition, we must choose one or another washing and drying process. In general, most textiles such as sheets, blankets, duvet covers or quilts can be washed at home, as long as we have a washing machine with enough capacity. If not, it is best to take the clothes to the laundry.

These are the steps that you must take into account for a correct washing and drying of bedding at home:

1- Read the label where the manufacturer's instructions appear
Each piece brings with it some indications for its correct maintenance. Often, we remove them without realizing that for the garment to last it is necessary to follow the washing and drying recommendations specified on the labels.
2- Apply a treatment for stains
Before putting the sheets to wash, it is important that you check for stains, to apply a specific treatment. Depending on the type of stain, you should consider using a stain remover or doing a machine prewash.
3- Avoid overloading the washing machine
To save time, it is common to put a couple of sets of sheets in the same laundry. Although it depends on the capacity of each washing machine, you should make sure that there is enough space in the drum so that the water and detergent are distributed correctly. In this way, we will ensure the efficiency of washing the textiles.
4- Washing and drying the clothes separately

It is another of the most common mistakes made when washing and drying bedding: putting together different clothes to save time. The composition of sheets, bedspreads, duvet covers or quilts is different, so it is not advisable to mix textiles from different materials in the same laundry.

Likewise, it is not recommended to wash or dry bedding together with other household textiles, such as, for example, delicates, pajamas or towels. If we wash and dry the textiles separately, we will prevent lint from adhering to the garments and make them wrinkle more, in addition to ensuring a deep cleaning.

5- Correct wash cycle

We return to the first point. The label with the indications must be read carefully to apply the correct washing cycle and thus avoid damaging the fabrics. Depending on the type of material, you should choose a hot water program, at a warm or cold temperature.
For synthetics, for example, a warm or cold wash cycle is recommended. In the case of cotton sheets, it is best to use a 60º wash program.
6- Be careful with the dose of detergent and fabric softener
As for detergents and softeners, two basic aspects must be taken into account. On the one hand, the choice: choose a special detergent and softener for machine washing delicate clothes. The second aspect to take into account: the amount. To avoid residues remaining, which will reduce the softness of the garments, you must put the amount proportional to the size of the load.
7- Avoid excess drying
As for the drying of the clothes, you can do it either in the dryer or by laying them outdoors. In both cases, you should take into account the following recommendations. In the case of using a tumble dryer, choose a program at medium or low temperature, ideally with an anti-crease cycle, that lasts for the shortest time possible. If you choose to hang your bedding outdoors, avoid direct sunlight and high temperatures as they will reduce the softness of the fabrics.
8- Do not neglect the bedding in the washing machine or dryer
To prevent bedding from becoming too wrinkled, you should pay attention and immediately remove the items from the washing machine after the wash cycle is over. Before drying, shake them a little. In the case of putting the sheets in the dryer, you should also remove them immediately after finishing the drying program.
