Understand the Evaporative Cooling Process

From the intake of outside air to the air distribution process.

  • What is the Evaporative Cooling Process?
  • It is the process by which air is cooled through the evaporation of water.

How does the process work?
Evaporative cooling happens when warm air comes into contact with colder water, causing it to evaporate, cooling and humidifying the air.

Inside the climate control the evaporative cooling process is as simple as the formation of fresh sea breeze. As the outside air passes through the evaporative panel, the water removes the heat making the air cool, which can now be transferred to different types of environments providing a continuous flow of air.

Where are they used?
Evaporative air conditioners are widely used in industries, supermarkets, gyms and places where constant renewal and air circulation is required. They are recommended for large places such as sheds and stocks or even for smaller places such as industrial kitchens, restaurants and general commerce.

What are the benefits of the Evaporative Climatizer?
With functions that help air circulation, it has different benefits.

Ecological & Healthy

Evaporative coolers promote constant air renewal by eliminating pollutants such as smoke, dust and odors, helping to reduce respiratory problems.

energy efficiency

Conscious energy consumption is a major concern of Ice House Brasil. Our equipment consumes 85% less electricity compared to air conditioning.

Professional Equipment

They are practical for installation and have a low maintenance cost. Its operation is very simple, with all functions accessed through the control with LCD display.

Discover the main advantages of evaporative cooling now!

Evaporative cooling is an alternative to regular air conditioning that has shown several benefits.

Both with regard to its functioning and the consequences for health and the environment, the truth is that the air conditioner is a very advantageous option.

The air conditioning is very efficient in air conditioning and much needed in almost all of Brazil, given its tropical climate, and even in the colder regions also record high temperatures at times very hot.

However, this equipment brings some problems such as the drying out of the environment, which is even worse in winter, a naturally drier season.

As a result, people's health problems remain in the environment for longer.

Are you thinking of purchasing equipment to keep the temperature of your environments more comfortable?

Understand why evaporative climate control is a great option:

What are the problems caused by air conditioning?
The cool, dry air from this equipment causes irritation in the nose and throat.

As air conditioning requires closed environments, it favors the proliferation of viruses, bacteria, mites and fungi, as it limits air circulation.

Furthermore, the thermal shock caused by the sudden change in temperature can cause a runny nose, tachycardia, facial paralysis and, in more extreme cases, even cardiac arrest.

What are evaporative air conditioners?

Evaporative climatizers are equipment that use water evaporation as a temperature control mechanism.

To evaporate, water needs to absorb heat from the environment and, as a result, reduces the temperature of the medium.

The equipment basically consists of:

  • A fan;
  • A water reservoir;
  • A bomb;
  • An evaporative panel, also called a beehive, formed by sheets of high quality kraft paper.
How does evaporative cooling work?
The pump takes the water from the reservoir to the top of the panel (beehive), causing it to flow throughout the panel, which becomes wet.
A channel helps distribute water evenly across the panel.

Located just in front of the panel, the fan pulls hot air which, when passing through the panel, evaporates the water and reduces its temperature, causing it to return cooled to the room.

When the non-evaporated water falls back into the reservoir, it is again evaporated and pulled to the top of the panel, continuing the cycle.

A buoy, equivalent to those used in water tanks, is useful to keep the reservoir level constant.

What temperature does it produce?
Unlike common air conditioning, with an evaporative climate control, the final temperature is not defined by the equipment.

It mainly depends on the conditions of the surrounding environment.

There is something called air saturation, which is the air's ability to absorb water vapor.

Dry air has its capacity for saturation more extended, that is, it needs more moisture in the air, presence of water vapor, to saturate.

You already know how the evaporative air conditioner works , now imagine that, in a dry environment, the air has greater power to give heat to the water, so that it evaporates.

This means that it returns cooler to the environment, given its greater saturation capacity.

Thus, in dry and hot environments, with a relative humidity of around 30%, a temperature of 37ºC can be reduced by 11ºC.

On the contrary, in humid environments, the air already saturated with water vapor does not have much potential to cause the evaporation of water from the climate control system, and has a lower temperature reduction.

Therefore, in these environments, depending on the temperature, the reduction is between 2.5ºC and 3ºC.

What are the advantages of evaporative climate control?
The evaporative cooling system has several advantages , including:

  • It does not release water droplets in the environment and can be used in almost all types of environment;
  • It promotes the renewal and cleaning of the air, in addition to humidifying it, which is a benefit for people who have respiratory allergies and live in dry climates;
  • It has low consumption and maintenance cost, consuming up to 90% less energy than an air conditioner;
  • It contributes to sustainability because, in addition to low consumption, the evaporative panel is recyclable, as it is made of paper;
  • It doesn't need closed environments to work.
  • How does temperature control influence productivity?
  • Air conditioning in dairy farms increased milk production by 9.6%.

Cooling the environment for dairy cows makes them rest more, becoming less stressed and producing more.

This example of increased productivity is similar to the one seen around us.

People are less productive in environments with extreme temperatures, for both cold and heat.

Creating a comfortable environment for employees increases their work productivity.

The low noise level of this system also helps to reduce stress. In industries, excess heat can cause dehydration, cramps and exhaustion.

In gyms , air conditioning improves the breathing of customers, as it humidifies the environment instead of drying it out, as does the air conditioning.

As it does not need closed environments, it also avoids thermal shocks, as it does not greatly reduce the temperature.

In stores , a climate-controlled environment helps to increase sales. In a clothing store, for example, the customer will feel more comfortable trying on several pieces if the temperature is mild, not sweating with each change.

Another reason is that it is not necessary to keep the doors of your establishment closed, which is more inviting to your audience, avoiding leaving them closed due to the operation of the air conditioning.

  • What are the precautions with the installation of the evaporative climate control?
  • Although the evaporative cooling system does not have restrictions on the type of environment, some precautions need to be taken for the installation and maintenance of the air conditioners.

One of the most common mistakes is thinking that your cooling works like an air conditioner.

Its main objective is to provide a comfortable thermal sensation and constantly renewed air in the environment.

Before installing the system, you should hire a specialist cooling project engineer.

A poorly done design or incorrectly sized equipment does not achieve the expected results, and this often causes the faulty blame to fall on the evaporative solution.

One of the most important points, perhaps the main one, to think about the project is that, for the evaporative system to work efficiently, the environment must contain air outlets, such as windows, doors or exhaust fans and they must be compatible with the inlet flow .

Ideally, the air conditioner is built into the wall, to pull in outside air, making it circulate throughout the room and then leave.

If the room is completely closed, the only effect will be increased humidity.

  • Does the humid climate hinder the functioning of the evaporative system?
  • Another mistake is to think that coastal cities, considered to be naturally humid, are not suitable for the use of the evaporative system.

Humidity is a determining factor for the system's efficiency, but so is the temperature: the higher it is, the more moisture the air can retain, which makes the system work perfectly.

You should also pay attention to the water tank. If it is poorly sealed, it becomes suitable for mosquito breeding.

When turning off the system, it is necessary to dry the panel with a fan. Moisture favors the development of fungi and bacteria, which invade the interior of the environment.

Kitchen cabinet: 10 tips on how to choose yours

The kitchen cabinet is the protagonist of the decoration. Its function within the room is to store supplies and utensils in an organized manner.

It's been some time since the kitchen stopped being a hidden space inside the house and became an extension of the living area. In this room, residents prepare meals and welcome guests. When furnishing and decorating the space, one of the most important decisions is to define the best closet model.

There are several kitchen cabinet models, which differ in terms of size, price, materials and style. The choice of furniture needs to take into account the needs of the residents and also the other elements that make up the environment.

Buying a closet considering only the aesthetics is not enough. The resident needs to choose a piece of furniture proportional to the size of their kitchen and also consider the amount of items that need to be stored.

Tips for Choosing Kitchen Cabinet
To choose a perfect kitchen cabinet, you should consider furniture that promotes organization and makes everyday activities simpler. We have selected some tips for you to make the right decision. Look:

1 – Calculate the budget
Before planning any kitchen decor you need to consider the budget available. The closet cannot compromise the entire budget if the room does not have the other furniture and appliances.

2 – Consider the position of the sink, refrigerator and stove
It is not always possible to change the position of the sink, stove and refrigerator. This is especially true in apartments, where kitchens are smaller. Therefore, to find the ideal closet, consider the measurements of the appliances before defining the room layout.

Consider the arrangement of appliances and the sink

3 – Understand the function of each space in the kitchen
The refrigerator and the furniture around it take on the storage function inside the kitchen. The sink is the place to prepare food, so the counter must be free. Essential cooking accessories should be located near the stove.

In a linear kitchen, furniture and appliances are aligned in space. However, if the room has an L-shape, it is very important to install furniture that takes advantage of the corners.

4 – Define the best type of closet

If the budget is high, it's worth betting on the purchase of a planned kitchen cabinet. This furniture, with a contemporary look, is custom-made and takes advantage of every inch of the environment. Planned furniture is especially favorable when the kitchen is small.

  • The finished cabinet is another furniture option for those who are decorating the kitchen. It is manufactured using popular sizes, materials and finishes. Its price is usually much more affordable than the planned furniture.

5 – Know the measures
The measurements of each piece of furniture must be defined according to the available area in the kitchen. The volume of things that need to be stored must also be taken into account.

There are some measures considered “standard” that make planning the layout easier. The drawers under the sink are on average 60 cm deep and 95 cm high. It is recommended that this piece of furniture does not reach the floor, as this can make cleaning the kitchen difficult.

Overhead cabinets don't always have to go to the ceiling, especially when the residents of the house aren't that tall. As for the size of the modules, the largest are 70 cm high and the smallest 40 cm. Depth also has a standard measurement of 35 cm.

The distance between the sink and the overhead cabinet should be between 60 cm and 70 cm.

6 – Consider the colors
To favor the feeling of spaciousness, it is recommended to include a white cabinet in the decoration. The paint on the walls should also be light. However, there are other kitchen cabinet colors that are on the rise and deserve to be considered, such as deep green, navy blue, gray, yellow and black and white.

The colorful furniture leaves the kitchen with a more fun air, while the wooden furniture fulfills the role of leaving the environment with a rustic and welcoming air.

7 – Choose a material compatible with the need
Kitchen cabinets are usually made with basically two types of materials: wood and stainless steel. The first option has the advantage of being long-lasting and enabling various forms of finishing, however, it is not always able to adapt to a humid environment.

Stainless steel gives the decor a more contemporary feel, in addition to offering resistance to the busy routine of the kitchen.

Those looking for quality when decorating the kitchen should not consider buying a laminated cabinet.

8 – Aim at a style
The cabinet chosen to decorate the kitchen needs to be compatible with the style of the decor. For example, if the intention is to create a functional and modern environment, then furniture with a lot of sculpted details is not recommended. In contrast, an old-fashioned cabinet looks nice in a kitchen with rustic decor.

9 – Prioritize the organization
The cabinet structure must provide conditions to organize the kitchen. It is essential that the furniture has well-defined divisions, such as shelves, drawers, drawers and niches with doors.

The best models of kitchen cabinets are those that have cabinets with doors or trundles, drawers and overhead modules. See below what to store in each part of the closet:

  • Drawers with greater depth: serve to store trays, pans and molds. They are also useful for setting up a food pantry.
  • Drawers: suitable for storing cutlery, dish towels and placemats. To make life easier in the kitchen, they should be placed close to the stove.
  • Overhead cabinets: suitable for storing plates, glasses, cups and other dishes that need to be always at hand. At the top, you can place less-used utensils and some decorative objects (but that's only if the furniture doesn't reach the ceiling).
  • Upright cabinets : upright cabinets are perfect for enjoying every corner of the room. They are used to store the rest of the dishes and small appliances, such as a toaster, coffee maker and sandwich maker.
  • The basic rule for organizing the kitchen cabinet is to divide the space and store objects in groups.

10 – Consider your situation in the property
If you live in a rented house or apartment , the suggestion is to get a kitchen cabinet model that can be reused later if you move. In this case, it is not worth investing in custom furniture.
