Part 1 Machine wash the stuffed animal

Place the stuffed animal in a pillowcase and tie the opening with a knot. If you put it in the washing machine without the cover, the machine could damage the fibers. By keeping the cover closed, you will prevent the plush from being hit too hard and increase its durability. [1]

Use a detergent that doesn't create a lot of suds. A sudsy detergent can weigh down the stuffed animal and prolong the drying process. Also, it may leave your hair feeling soapy and sticky after drying. Therefore, it is better to choose a milder detergent to limit the amount of suds. [2]

Put the stuffed animal in the machine and start a gentle wash cycle. Stronger cycles can hit the plush too hard and even damage it. Therefore, choose the gentlest mode to keep it safe while you wash it.

Set the temperature option to "cold." Hot water can damage the plush, while cold water helps preserve its color and texture. Some wash cycles automatically use cold water, while others require you to do it manually. Check your machine manual if you are not sure how to adjust the temperature. [3]

Part 2 Hand wash the stuffed animal

Hand wash scented pillow toys. Most Pillow Pets can be machine washed or hand washed as you prefer. However, the scented version must be hand washed to preserve the scent. Therefore, never put a stuffed animal in the machine if you don't want it to lose its original sweet aroma. [4]

• You could also wash the stuffed animal by hand if you only want to clean a specific area.

In a bucket or sink, combine water and a mild detergent. In this way, you can wash your stuffed animal without damaging it or generating too much suds. Check your detergent ingredients to figure out how much to add. Avoid using too much so as not to saturate the water.

• Choose an unscented detergent to wash a scented plush pillow.

Use a damp cloth cloth to wash the surface of the plush. Soak the cloth in the detergent solution and wring it out to get rid of excess water. Press the damp fabric against the stuffed animal and rub in a circular motion. Continue rubbing until all hair is damp and blemish-free. [6]

Press down on the stuffed animal to squeeze out the excess water. If there is a lot of water left inside, it will take much longer to dry and mold may appear. Gently apply pressure to get rid of the water.

Part 3 Drying the stuffed animal

• You can wash all types of pillow the same way, except for the sweet scented version.
• If the stuffed animal has been in contact with lice, you will need to wash it more rigorously .
