What is diabetes ?
Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic syndrome of multiple origin, resulting from the lack of insulin and / or its inability to exert its effects properly, which causes an increase in blood glucose (sugar).

The problem happens because the pancreas is not able to produce the hormone called “insulin” in sufficient quantity to supply the body's needs, or also because this hormone is not able to act in the proper way (insulin resistance).

Insulin then promotes the reduction of blood glucose by allowing the sugar present in the blood to penetrate into the cells, to be used as an energy source.

In summary, diabetes is the elevation of blood glucose ( hyperglycemia). So, if there is a lack of insulin, or it does not act correctly, there will be this increase and, consequently, diabetes.

How does insulin work?
This hormone secreted by the pancreas acts directly to control blood glucose. When transporting glucose into cells, insulin removes sugar from the bloodstream. When insulin secretion does not occur or is reduced, the individual develops diabetes.
