Back up your device media

Where smartphone data is stored
Your smartphone information is backed up in multiple places. If the upload is on Google, the backup will be encrypted with your Google Account password. Your device's screen lock PIN, pattern, and password will also be used to encrypt some data.

The backup will be kept in your Google One account as long as you use your smartphone and have an Internet connection.

Backup data will be deleted:

• if you don't use the device for 57 days;
• if you disable Android backup.

Enable automatic backups
 You can set your smartphone to automatically save backup copies of files.

• On the Android smartphone, open the Google One app Google One.
• At the top, tap Settings and Manage backup settings .
• Choose backup settings.
• If you see recommendations for installing an app, updating an app, or changing its settings, follow the onscreen steps. Go back to the Google One app.
• You can back up copies of your files with data from the cellular network. To reduce data usage, disable cellular network data backup and enable Wi-Fi backup.
• If prompted, give permissions.
• In the upper left corner, tap Back Return .
• Google One backup can take up to 24 hours. When all media is saved, you will see the status "Enabled" below the selected data types.

Start a backup
After choosing the settings, you can start a backup right away.

• On the Android smartphone, open the Google One app Google One.
• Tap Back up now .
• You may need to tap Activate to get started.

Transferring data to a new smartphone
You can restore data from backup in Google One app.

• If you haven't done so already, restore the backup in Android settings.
• Open the Google One app Google Oneon your new Android smartphone.
• At the top, tap Settings .
• Tap Restore using backup .
• Next to the media you want to recover, tap Restore .
• If you see recommendations for installing an app, updating an app, or changing its settings, follow the onscreen steps.
• Go back to the Google One app to complete the process.
• If prompted, give permissions.
• In the upper left corner, tap Back Return .
• Restoring from Google One can take up to 24 hours.

About multimedia files
If you have a Google One backup, you may be able to restore multimedia messages, photos and videos using the setup wizard. You can restore files on publicly released devices as of October 2019. If so, when you choose to restore, you will see these media files among the other data categories such as SMS, Contacts, and Settings.

If your device was released to the public before October 2019, you can restore multimedia messages, photos and videos using the Google One app.

Delete smartphone backups
You can delete backed up smartphone files to free up storage space.

Remarks :

• This will permanently delete the backup file.
• If automatic backups are still enabled, new backup files will be created in the future.
• Open the Google Drive app Google Driveon your Android smartphone.
• On the left, tap Menu Menu and Backups .
• Tap the desired backup file.

Choose an option:

• Delete MMS files only : To delete files such as images and videos, tap MMS  and Delete .
• Delete all files in the backup folder : At the top, tap More More and Delete backup and Delete .
