Homemade Carpet Deodorizing Product

 Homemade Carpet Deodorizing Product

As soon we will have to start thinking about storing the rugs, we are going to see a home method to deodorize rugs. With products that we surely have in our pantry, we can remove the bad odors that permeate the rugs with use and thus we can keep them clean and scented for the next winter.

- Homemade Carpet Deodorizing Products

First of all we are going to see how we can make our own carpet deodorizing powders, using an old acquaintance, sodium bicarbonate and then we will see how to clean and deodorize our carpets with this wonderful product.

To prepare deodorizing powders we need:

- Sodium bicarbonate
- Essential oil, orange, lemon, lavender ... the one with our favorite aroma
- A recovered bottle of spices or similar, which has holes to comfortably sprinkle our deodorizer

In any container we put the amount of bicarbonate that we will fit in the pot that we have, we add a few drops of the essential oil of our choice and stir with a spoon so that all the bicarbonate is impregnated with the essential oil. Next we pack the scented bicarbonate in the dusting pot.

If we have any stains on the carpet, it will be time to clean it, we can use a paste based on bicarbonate and water or some other method, such as this one that we already present in another article on this page. When we have the carpet free of stains we will go to deodorizing, for this we will sprinkle our deodorizing powder all over the surface of the carpet and with a stiff bristle brush we will give a good brushing throughout the carpet so that the dust enters between the fibers of the carpet. Then we will vacuum to remove all the deodorizing dust. You will see how your carpet remains with a great clean smell, it will also be completely sanitized.

Do not forget to label, even with a simple marker, the scented bicarbonate, although you can also print a label to make it perfectly recognizable. And keep it with the cleaning products, please, so you will avoid possible confusion and accidents.

How to remove dog smell from carpet?

There is no dog in this world (or cat) that does not love taking long naps on the carpet, but its peculiar "smell" and the occasional accident, make that carpeted and comfortable space in a place with strange smells.

- How to remove dog smell from carpet and products

Sometimes trying to clean with some liquid, we add moisture and the carpet ends up worse. If this is your case, do not worry here we explain how to solve the issue without having to throw the rug or take away your friend's favorite place.

Your allies: baking soda and vacuum
These two ingredients are just what you need for this job. If you want to give it a smell, not just remove it, then you should look for an essential oil that you like. Lavender or vanilla, for example.

Vacuum the carpet to remove all dust, fiber debris, pet hair, etc. It has to be completely clean to proceed to the next step.

Spread the baking soda all over the carpet. To perfume it, add a few drops of essential oil to the baking soda before pouring it on the rug.

Leave the mixture to act for at least three hours, the longer you leave it, the more odors it will absorb. Then vacuum again and remove all the baking soda.

What if my pet had a "liquid" accident?
If they are puppies or very old, we will not be able to escape from urine on the carpet, but do not worry that the bicarbonate also works at this time.

Blot fresh urine stains with a clean cloth. Absorb as much of the carpet as you can before cleaning it. Use a clean cloth or several pieces of absorbent paper to dab on the rug to absorb the liquid.

Create a vinegar and baking soda solution. Combine 2 cups (500 ml) of white vinegar, 2 cups (500 ml) of warm water, and 4 tablespoons (60 ml) of baking soda and pour into a spray bottle. Spray a good amount of the mixture on the urine stains on the carpet and let it sit for 5 minutes.

The most effective ways to leave your carpets like new

The most effective ways to leave your carpets like new

The carpets are beautiful. They improve the decoration of any environment, give a touch of elegance and warmth, while they warm our feet on those cold days, hot coffee and bare feet.

- The most effective ways to leave your carpets like new and products

But… it must be said: the carpets are dirty. They get full of crumbs, fluff, stains, and worst of all: they leave odors. So that this does not happen, let's first be clean ... and being clean is basically divided into two categories: no mess and clean.

Beware of rugs! Because they get very dirty and cleaning them can seem difficult, and it is if we do not know how to do it. Therefore, in this book of ideas we will review some tips so that cleaning your carpet and leaving it shiny is no problem.

Fight bad smells

All kinds of bad smells can come from our carpet. Smell of smoke, mold, food stains, and so much more disgusting. The stench usually builds over time until it becomes unbearable. So let's try to get the carpet dirty as little as possible. And let's follow these brilliant tips to beat unpleasant odors.

Sodium bicarbonate

A marvel. That's what baking soda is, especially when it comes to bad smells on your carpet. We just have to sprinkle the baking soda on the smelly area and let it rest for about fifteen minutes. Then vacuum.

We can also sprinkle with a few drops of essential oils mixed with the bicarbonate. We mix well and do the same as indicated above: fifteen minutes, vacuum. The smell will blow us away!

Baking soda is special for eliminating smoke odors.

Vinegar is the most

Vinegar is a great substance when it comes to naturally deodorizing carpet. Let's use our nasal power to know where the bad smell of the carpet is coming from. Next, let's clean the infected area with soap and water, plus an antibacterial detergent. Once this is done, let's fill a bucket or any container with half a cup of water and half a cup of vinegar. With that we rub over the area to be sanitized.

Vinegar has incredible properties that, among other things, fight stains and deodorize your carpet in no time. White vinegar is the best for these cases.

Salt can be very effective

Salt works very well if it is necessary to absorb urine, a frequent problem if we have small children or pets that roam the living room in our house. Faced with such an accident, we must act urgently. We immediately pour salt over the urine and see how it absorbs it. We repeat the step until it does not absorb more and let it act for about 15 minutes.

In this way, all the moisture in the carpet is sucked out and the bad smell goes away immediately. Isn't it wonderful?

The benefits of soap

Soap is a substance that is very commonly used to remove dirt and odors from carpets. We simply mix a cup of hot water with half a teaspoon of detergent or mild liquid soap. We apply it on the carpet and let it dry with a towel on top. We repeat this process until the stains are removed. Finally, we rinse the area with a solution of vinegar and water. This trick is special for removing blood and wine stains.

The classic deodorants

Applying the correct deodorant can be enough to make our carpets smell fresh and clean. There are deodorants that are specially made to deal with the bad odors that are formed by mold or smoke.

We can also make our own deodorant very simply. We mix half a cup of baking soda, borax and a teaspoon of ground spices, such as cinnamon. Then we store in a dry and ventilated place. We sprinkle the mixture and leave it on the carpet for half an hour. This deodorant is very useful to eliminate odors related to pets.

When cleaning carpet stains, be careful not to scrub too hard as the carpet fibers tend to get destroyed in the process. To clean the most difficult stains, such as coffee or tea, let's use a cup of water mixed with ammonia.

In case the stains do not respond to any of the treatments mentioned above, seek help from professional carpet cleaners.

KEEP YOUR CARPET LIKE NEW BY CLEANING IT

KEEP YOUR CARPET LIKE NEW BY CLEANING IT

Stains, marks, color changes ... The carpet suffers a lot of wear and we have to know how to clean it well, whether it is long-haired or made of natural fibers. With proper care you will extend its life. Here is a guide to infallible tricks

- KEEP YOUR CARPET LIKE NEW BY CLEANING IT AND PRODUCTS

1. BEWARE OF THE FURNITURE!
Their weight marks them. Turn it every so often so that it does not always wear on the same side.

2. AVOID DUST
It spoils the fibers and weighs the carpets so it is very important to vacuum it regularly.

3. CLEAN AND ROLLED
When you want to store it, take it to the dry cleaner and keep it rolled up in newspaper because it absorbs moisture.

Wear and tear and direct sunlight "eat away" the color of the carpets. If your carpet has lost its original color, you can revive it with one of these three simple homemade tricks that will be very easy and effective. Take note:

With coarse salt. Mix a handful of salt and water in a bowl to form a paste. Spread it on the carpet and let it dry. Then, scrub with a brush to make it work better and remove the remains with the vacuum cleaner.
Alcohol vinegar, better warm, is another effective remedy. Rub the surface of the rug with a cotton cloth soaked in vinegar. Leave on for a few minutes and wipe with a dry cloth before vacuuming.
If the carpet is dark, you can spread slightly damp coffee grounds. Simply remove them once they have dried.

IF YOU HAVE AN UNPLEASANT ODOR ...
Neutralize it with baking soda. Simply sprinkle it on the surface, let it act and remove with the vacuum cleaner. Then scent the rug with essential oils of lavender, cinnamon, geranium ... To make it easier for you, use a spray.

IF THE CARPET HAS MARKS FROM THE FURNITURE ...
Then repair them with ice cubes. Apply them to the affected area and let them melt. The carpet will hollow out and the indentation will eventually disappear. If the mark resists, use a dessert fork to carefully finish lifting the fibers.

Ah! And rotate the position of your mat at least once a year. This way, it wears the same on both sides and the marks are less fixed.

THE DUST: THE GREAT ENEMY OF THE CARPETS
Dust damages the fibers and, if not removed, can tear them, while weighing down the carpet. It is best to remove it with the vacuum cleaner. KP Carpets recommend doing it without a brush, only with the vacuum cleaner tube, to avoid unnecessary wear on the carpet.

IF THE CARPET HAS BEEN STAINED ...
Act fast: it is the best anti-blemish remedy. The first thing you should do is remove the remains with absorbent paper. Clean from the edge to the center and never use a very wet sponge - you can make the stain expand. Before using any stain remover product, test it in a non-visible area. And for the most stubborn stains:

OF RED WINE
Remove it by rubbing the affected area with sparkling water, followed by a cleansing foam.

OF TEA OR COFFEE
They are cleaned by rubbing the stain with a mixture made of detergent and white vinegar.

GUM
Don't try to start it directly. Harden the gum with an ice cube and it will be easier to remove.

OF PEN INK
It is removed by "pinching" the stain with a very clean white cloth impregnated with milk.

IF THE CARPET IS SOMETHING WORN ...
The best thing is that you take it to a professional to take care of its repair. You can repair tears, change edges, and even stain and breathe new life into it. Although it is cheaper than buying a new carpet, consider it only if your carpet is of quality.

IF YOUR CARPET IS FRAYED ...
You can add a trim. They are very decorative and, in addition, they prevent the rugs from starting to fray. There are edging tapes with an adhesive part that are very easy to apply and are very decorative.

IF THE EDGES OF THE CARPET RAISE ...
Apply a little moisture to the edges to lower the corners and restore the carpet's initial shape. You can do this with a damp cloth or spray.

Idea! Once wet put a weight on top to help flatten them again.

IF THE FRINGES ON THE CARPET FRAY ...
In Persian-type rugs it is common for the fringes to come loose. Sometimes it is enough for an expert to tie the parts that are loose (from 20 US / m) to avoid further deterioration. If this happened, the restoration would be more expensive, always depending on the size of the carpet and its condition.

Yourself. If the rug is simple, you can repair the fringes yourself. Look for threads of a similar color and thickness to the originals and sew them to the base. Brush them with a solution of water and detergent.

IF THE CARPET MOVES A LOT ...
Put an anti-slip. Change it from time to time to avoid losing adherence.

You have many options. You can use some rubber or rubber strips in the corners; a latex pad; or a plasticized mesh mat.

How to clean dog pee from carpet

How to clean dog pee from carpet

Well yes, accidents happen. Don't panic. At Instituto Perro we did research to see what is the best natural method to remove stains from the carpet. Follow these steps and in no time your carpet will be odor and stain free.

- How to clean dog pee from carpet and products

1. Act quickly

The longer the pee is on your carpet, the more the smell is absorbed. The problem with odor is not only that your house smells like pee, but your dog assumes that this is the right place to go to the bathroom and, clearly, that is the last thing we want to happen.

2. Dry the pee

Using newspaper or paper napkins, try to absorb as much pee as possible. You can use a heavy object (if you use a book put it in a plastic bag) to absorb more. When you remove them, take this to the place where you want your dog to know to pee. Leave it there for a while so your dog understands that his bathroom is not your living room.

3. White Vinegar and Water

Vinegar is a wonder to clean things, it's cheap, it's natural, and it's non-toxic. In a bowl, mix vinegar and water in the same proportion. Pour this mixture onto the carpet and run a brush or your fingers over it to ensure it reaches the bottom. The vinegar will help neutralize the ammonia in your dog's pee.

Dry this using the same napkins and if you have a vacuum that absorbs liquids, use it to remove the remaining moisture.

4. Baking soda

When the area is almost dry, add a handful of baking soda.

5. Liquid detergent for dishes and hydrogen peroxide

Mix half a cup of hydrogen peroxide (no more than 3.5% concentration) with a teaspoon of liquid dish detergent (Example: Palmolive, Dawn, Axión). Pour this mixture on top of the baking soda and wait for it to dry completely. You can use a fan, dryer, or heater to make it faster.

6. Vacuum

Once it has completely dried, vacuum up the remaining baking soda. You can use a small brush to remove what is between the carpet. Done, your carpet is stain and odor free :)

Remember that if your dog has just come home, it is very common for these accidents to happen. Be patient, he does not know well yet and if you teach him correctly, this is probably the only time you use this recipe.

Tell us if it worked for you or if you have any other remedy to share it with all of us who have a dog through Twitter or Facebook.
