Learn how to wash your duvet with 6 tricks

A common question for those concerned with ensuring the quality of bed linen is how to wash the comforter . As it is a large and often heavy piece, it is necessary to be careful when cleaning, especially if it is done on the machine.

Thinking about the most common questions regarding the hygiene of these articles, we have prepared a complete dossier with the step by step so that you always have a clean, soft, fragrant and new-looking duvet.

1- First, check the label

The wash label is very useful to properly sanitize the duvet. The first drawing usually represents a basin of water. If it has an x on top, it means that the piece needs to be dry cleaned. The number inside the symbol is the maximum allowable water temperature. In case you have a hand on the icon, the piece can only be washed by hand.

The design of a triangle concerns the use of bleach. The x means the pieces cannot be targeted. However, modern oxygen-based products tend not to damage the comforter.

A square with a circle inside serves to show whether or not the product can be placed in a dryer. If there are black marbles inside, they indicate the temperature of the dryer. A small ball means that you should use a low temperature, while two small dots allow the appliance to be used freely.

Finally comes the symbol representing iron. Each point inside the appliance represents a temperature, just like in the dryer.

2- Beware of machine capacity

It is very important to check the capacity of the machine before washing the duvet . If it is exceeded, both the fabric and the appliance can be damaged.

Machines starting at 10 kilos are suitable for a double duvet . Queen and king models can only be washed in appliances with a volume above 15 kilos.

A common mistake is not checking the drying capacity. Wash and dry appliances generally have a lower limit for the second function.

3- How to wash the duvet?
How to wash duvetNow it's time to start the process and learn how to machine wash the duvet . First, place the piece following the shape of the appliance's drum. That way you distribute the weight evenly on all sides.

In order not to run the risk of bundling the inner blanket or damaging the seams, it is recommended to use the gentle cycle. If the item is very dirty, let it soak for a day and wash it twice.

4- Soap and fabric softener

The most suitable way to wash duvets is to use liquid soap, which prevents stains. However, if you prefer the powdered product, dilute it in water before throwing it into the machine. The correct thing is to put it on only when the device is full of water.

Softener can also stain the fabric. The key to preventing this from happening is not to use the machine's dispenser. Put the product directly into water at the right time.

5- Drying time

Finished the wash? Time to dry. To do this, just place your piece well extended in an airy place. If the comforter is colored, leave it in the shade. Light items can be placed in the sun. The ideal is that it stays extended for two or three days so that the blanket stays very dry.

6- Basic care
How to wash duvet Depending on the frequency of use of the duvet, it is recommended that it be washed every three or four months. If it is heavy and you only use it in winter, it can be washed twice a year.

Care must be taken when storing . Ideally, use TNT bags or vacuum items. By the way, never store them in plastic bags, as they can harm your product.

To keep it always clean you can vacuum the piece from time to time. This helps to remove everyday dust, hair and fur from pets. In this way, separate a nozzle for this purpose only.

With a mattress, you can get all the support and comfort you need without splashing on a fresh mattress.

Types of Mattress Toppers
Mattress mattresses, a thick piece of material, can be placed on top of the mattress and under the sheets, ensuring a more comfortable nights sleep. They come in different types.

Antiallergic
Allergy-free, filled with luxurious hollow fiber, are created to protect the owner against the mites and the nasty bacteria they can bring along with them, so you can choose them to help with your back problems. And, they can be supportive and comfortable, and provide the kind of comfort and support you'd expect from any other quality synthetic filling. They can breathe because the middle layer of this topper provides great ventilation. They are soft and warm. You can use it all year round. This topper is durable and comfortable. Anyone working on a smaller budget can choose this, although it doesn't have the thickness and support of other top elements.

Goose feather
Goose feather fillings, the warmest and naturally mildest fillings, apply across the plate. They hold heat very well. You will feel bearable and cozy on winter nights. To extend the life of your current mattress, you can choose goose feather mattresses.

Duck and down
Duck feathers and down, known as a luxury stuffing, not only provide a lot of support for your back and neck, they also provide a lasting solution for your aging mattress. They will make you completely forget the feel of your mattress because of the thickness and softness (85% duck, 15% drop) of this topper. They are a good choice for allergy sufferers because they come with a 100% cotton cover with an anti-bacterial substance. This topper is durable, soft and supportive. It's a great natural choice for extra back support.

Silk
If you feel that your current mattress is a firm touch, you should choose silk mattress protectors as they will give you that unmatched softness. This can be a good choice if you are looking to improve a particularly firm mattress. However, people suffering from back pain better choose a foam mattress.

Hollow fiber

Hollow fiber, an artificial substance, is much easier to create a variation in thickness to support the back. 100% hollow fiber polyester with a 100% microfiber padded breathable cover is used to make this particular synthetic topper. To create considerable distance between you and your mattress, its thickness is toward the top of the mattress top. With this topper, your neck and back will have a lot of extra support.

Memory foam
Memory foam molds perfectly to the contours of your body. If you're looking for extra support for your back or neck, this works brilliantly. Mattress protector: 6 reasons to use

Choosing a mattress is not an easy task, as it demands a high investment in research, in order to guarantee the correct option that meets your needs. With that in mind, it's always good to have alternatives that help protect you. And the answer to that need is quite simple: invest in a mattress protector .

Made in different fabrics, some with a waterproof finish, mattress protectors are a good way to cover the item, as well as protecting it from accidents and wear and tear. With many advantages, we highlight the main reasons to bet on the part when assembling your bed.

1 – The mattress protector makes cleaning easier
Mattresses are heavy products and can be difficult to clean. By using a protector, you make the need for cleaning less frequent. This happens because, by wrapping the article with the piece, you avoid the dirt from having direct contact with it. So, you will only need to wash the protector, which is much simpler and faster.

It is recommended to sanitize the mattress protector once a week. Cleaning can be done directly in the washing machine, with warm water and without using any type of fabric softener.

2 – … and increases the durability of the mattress

It is estimated that the useful life of a good mattress is approximately 10 years. However, washing the item frequently and the accumulation of impurities can decrease this longevity.

As you will need to clean it less and also because it will be less exposed to dirt, the mattress protector ensures the increased durability of your piece. This avoids the need to change the product so often.

3 – Help allergy sufferers
The protector, as it works as a mattress cover , prevents microorganisms from spreading. Just wash the fabric to keep them away from your bed. This is good news for those with allergies, as sleep is much more comfortable. The product prevents the action of these contaminations, promoting better health for its user.

4 – Prevents damage to the mattress
It also prevents accidents such as tears and holes that can be caused by sharp objects, by items of clothing that cling to the mattress surface or by the presence of pets in the bed. With the mattress cover , you avoid these problems.

5 – It is strategic with children

If you have small children, be aware that it is an essential piece, especially if made with material that does not absorb water. This avoids having to wash the mattress in case of accidents, liquid spills and other impurities. So, bet on a waterproof mattress protector for the bed of the little ones.

6 – Are easy to use

Generally speaking, mattress protectors work like a cover and are very easy to use. Most of them have a zipper and, to put it on the bed, just insert the mattress inside the protector and close it.

Intex Dura-Beam Deluxe Comfort Plush Airbed Series with Internal Pump (2021 Model)

Intex Dura-Beam Deluxe Comfort Plush Airbed Series with Internal Pump (2021 Model)

  •  An internal 110-120v inflation pump will inflate and deflate the airbed with the switch of a button
  • Approximate inflation time is 3 minutes
  • The convenient hand carry bag is perfect for storage and transport
  • Weight capacity: 600 lbs
  • Dimensions: 54" x 75" x 13"

How to Fill an Air Mattress

When you're camping, have a friend sleeping at home, or are just looking for a convenient place to rest, an inflatable mattress may be your best option. These mattresses are useful, they can serve as a comfortable place to sleep and are only a fraction of their size when compressed, which makes carrying one a lot easier. Regardless of whether you have an air pump or just a few tools at hand, inflating an inflatable mattress is simple — just blow air into it (and keep it from leaking!)

Method 1 filling with bomb

1
Remove the cap to open the valve. Most air mattresses have a valve that allows air to enter but not exit somewhere along the sides of the mattress. The first step is to locate this air passage and remove the cover. It is not possible to inflate the mattress without having an exact location for it.

  • Note that some more modern mattresses have pumps attached. In this case, simply plug the mattress into the socket or insert batteries and switch the switch to the “On” position to start filling it.

2
Insert the pump. Whether electrical or manual, your next step is the same: insert the pump nozzle into the hole in the mattress or valve opening. The pump must be locked into the material around the inlet. If not, air may escape, making filling difficult.

  • If you need to secure the pump to the inlet (if you are using a pump that is not your mattress model), it is best to use electrical tape to seal and prevent air from escaping. However, this may not work if the size difference is too large. Another option is to melt plastic around the pump to make it thicker and allow for a tighter fit. This can be difficult for beginners. [1]

3
If using an automatic pump, turn it on. Most modern mattresses come with an electric pump. If you're using one, plug it into an outlet or add batteries to use it.

  • Note that electric pumps often make noise, so it's best to be careful when filling the mattress if other people are sleeping.

4
If using a hand pump, start pumping. If the mattress is older or you have lost the electric pump, the hand pump may be the simplest way out. Although they are more tiring and less fast than electric ones, hand pumps also do the job. The two main types of hand pumps used to inflate mattresses are:

  • Hand Pumps: Generally large, used in up and down movements. However, there are smaller hand pumps for sale.
  • Foot pumps: usually take the form of a pedal attached to a hose; stepping on this pedal repeatedly forces air into the mattress.

5
Screw on the cap. When the mattress is full and firm to the touch, remove the pump and screw the cap on to keep air inside the mattress. Okay, now just sleep! Get some sheets, blankets and pillows.

  • Note that one-way valve mattresses automatically trap air. Even so, it's still best to cap it right after filling it to prevent air from escaping. Simpler mattresses have only one air opening, so you need to cover them quickly.

Method 2 filling without pump

1
Use a hair dryer if you don't have a pump available. If there is no bomb, it is possible to use items from the house to accomplish the task. For example, you can use an electric dryer. Simply turn it on and hold it in the mattress air intake. The process can take a little longer than if you were using a bomb.

  • Use cool air instead of hot air if you can. Most mattresses are made of plastic or vinyl, materials that can melt or deform if exposed to heat.

2
Use a vacuum cleaner.Any device that blows air can be used to inflate a mattress. For example, many vacuums have a function that blows out air instead of sucking. Another option is to use a leaf blower, made especially for this function. With devices like this, all you need to do is hold the hose or tip to the mattress's air intake to inflate it.

  • It is possible to convert conventional vacuum cleaners to expel air instead of sucking. To do this, remove the vacuum bag and plug a long hose into the hole. The air will come out of the hose and you will be able to fill your mattress with it. [two]

3
Use a tire pump. If you have a bicycle or car nearby, it should also have a tire pump. Most can be used to fill mattresses. However, it can be difficult to keep the hose connected to the mattress air inlet. You may need to use some type of adapter to prevent air from escaping. [3]

4
Use a trash bag. Most people don't know that it's possible to stuff a mattress using a black garbage bag. To do this, first open the bag and shake it up and down to get a lot of air. Hold the open end of the bag to trap the air inside. Take the bag to the mattress air inlet, snap the end of the bag into it, and squeeze it to force the air into the mattress (it may be easier to lie down lightly on the bag). Repeat as needed.

  • If you can, use thicker bags for this process. Thinner bags are more likely to burst with your weight.

5
If all else fails, inflate the mattress with your own air. If you can't find any objects above, use your lungs. Sanitize the mattress air intake with soap or alcohol and simply put your mouth to fill it. Repeat until mattress is firm. Filling this way can take time.

  • If the mattress does not have a one-way air inlet, you will need to keep your mouth in the mattress air passage and close your throat so the air does not come back as you breathe. Breathe through your nose, not your mouth.

Method  3 emptying the mattress

1
Release the valve cap. If you want to empty your mattress for storage, open the air valve and remove the lid. If the mattress has only a single air intake, it will start to deflate immediately. More complex models may require more effort, however. If the mattress doesn't start to deflate right away, try some of the tips below:

  • Look for an air exhaust valve or lever.
  • Activate the air release mechanism to deflate the mattress.
  • Remove the valve itself from the fitting.

2
Fold or roll up the mattress to force out air. As the air escapes, the mattress will be flatter. To get all the air out, try folding or rolling the mattress starting from the opposite side of the air valve. This will make it take up as little space as possible when it is empty.
To force all the air out of the mattress, try rolling it in small spaces, as if you were trying to get toothpaste out of a tube.

3
To save time, use a vacuum. If you want to speed up the process, use a vacuum to pull air out of the mattress. You can use a household vacuum or any other equipment that can create enough suction for this purpose. Just open the air inlet, wait for the air to start coming out of the mattress, and hold the hose over the inlet to speed up the process.

Tips
  • Dryers work best if you seal the mattress air intake by hand.

Notices
  • Don't overfill the mattress! If you feel dizzy, take a moment and take a deep breath to collect yourself.
  • Hot air from the dryer can melt or deform some mattress models. Use cool air if possible.

How to Wear a Neck Pillow

A good pillow is an important element of getting a good night's sleep, whether on the road or in your own bed. But for those with chronic head and neck pain, it can be difficult with a traditional pillow. Neck pillows are specifically made to support the head and neck naturally and in a neutral position. [1] A good product also improves sleep quality. [2] You can sleep well by optimizing your trip, finding the ideal product for your neck and sleeping on whatever you choose for a week.

Method 1 Optimizing travel with a neck pillow

1
Modernize your current neck pillow. Gone are the days of uncomfortable inflatable pillows. Now you can have a comfortable travel neck pillow that helps you sleep in even the tightest of places. Take the opportunity to adopt a softer version of yours and improve the travel experience. [3]

  • Take into account your specific needs. Do you have neck or back pain? An option to better support your head vertically is best for you. Want to be able to move around better and not disturb the people next to you? Use a traditional gel-filled donut-shaped pillow.
  • Explore different options. Get suggestions from fellow travelers or read reviews online to get more clarity about each specific model.
  • Think of pillow portability. If you like to travel light or without any oddly shaped items that need to be stuck in your suitcase, take a good look at the weight and size of each option.

2
Choose your seat in advance for more space. The seat's location makes a big difference to your comfort level – and how best to use the most modern pillow. If you can, choose the chair as soon as possible so that you don't miss the chance to stay in a better place to sleep. [4]

  • Select or order the window seat if you can. You may need to pay a little more for window placement and increase your comfort level. Such armchairs have some benefits: you can lean against the window and you're not bothered by people trying to pass to the bathroom or walk. In addition, you can also control the light, which can help at bedtime.
  • Sit near the entrance to the venue if possible. Usually, there's more noise in the back of the plane because that's where the engines are. However, you're more likely to get an entire row or two seats to yourself in the back, which might even make up for the extra noise. When checking in, ask the airline employee what seats are available and switch to better options if you can.
Avoid the front row of a cabin or the seats at emergency exits. Although you have more front leg room, you may not be able to recline the chair or move the armrest.

3
Fill the pillow. Depending on which option you have purchased, you will probably need to stuff your neck pillow. The right amount of air allows you to sleep better and be more comfortable. [5]

  • Take the pillow out of the hood and look for the inflation valve. Start pumping or blowing air into the product until it's full, then lie down on it to see if it's comfortable.
  • Open the valve and let the air out slowly until you reach the comfort level you want. If you want a firmer pillow, add more air.

4
Recline the chair. Sitting too straight can cause back pain, and many find it difficult to sleep in this position. Reclining the chair as far as you can takes the pressure off your lower back and also contributes to the best use of the neck pillow. [6]

  • Be considerate of the person sitting behind you. For example, if you're on a flight and it's mealtime, lean back just a little or wait for everyone to finish eating. You can adjust it according to the situation.

5
Invert the pillow. Some people find it uncomfortable to sleep with something bulky behind their head. Your head may also keep falling forward, which is a bit annoying. The best option for these cases is to reverse the pillow position in the opposite direction to protect your head while keeping your neck aligned. [7]

6
Direct the neck thrust for more comfort. Many neck pillows have some form of filling, such as beads or gel. Move this stuffing to your preferred side to get more comfortable. Tie the end with a hair clip or other item to secure the padding and keep it from moving. [8]

7
Lie down on the pillow. After reclining the chair, it's time to use the pillow. Lie on your back and close your eyes. If you are uncomfortable, adjust the air in the pillow until you can lie down and relax. [9]

  • Try to support the pillow in the small space between the seats or against the window.

Method  2 Sleeping in bed with neck pillow

1
Put your neck on the pillow when you're ready to lie down on the bed. Position your neck in or on the pillow where you want to sleep so you don't have to move into proper position, which can increase your risk of getting neck pain.

  • The back of your shoulders and head should be touching the surface where you are lying down. [10]

2
Analyze your alignment. After placing your head on the pillow, it's important to make sure your body is well-aligned to protect your neck and have an even more comfortable night. [11]

  • See if the pillow is supporting you without your head tipping forward or backward if you sleep on your back.
  • Make sure your neck is well supported and your nose is in line with the center of your body if you sleep on your side.
  • Both positions will work if you sleep in different positions.

3
Be careful if you sleep on your stomach. Neck pillows are made for those who sleep on their back, side or both. [12] Most professionals do not recommend sleeping on your stomach because it not only causes neck pain, but also causes lower back strain. [13]

4
Wait a while to get used to. It can take ten to 15 minutes to relax and get used to the pillow. Before you start to fret over being uncomfortable, get yourself in a position to see if it's right for you. If not, move to another position until you find one that your neck is comfortable with.[14]

  • Remember to wait up to a week using the pillow to see if it's right for you. If you're still not comfortable after a week, try switching to another one.

5
Start with the ends facing down. Most pillows have spikes that keep the neck lined up overnight. If you're not used to it, it can be difficult to sleep on your side with these tips. For the first few weeks, try to have them face down to help your head and neck adjust to the position. [15]

  • Recognize that it may be necessary to experiment to see where the pillow is most comfortable with the ends facing down. Position in the way that gives you the most support and comfort.

6
Turn the pillow over. After one to three weeks of sleeping upside down, turn the pillow over. [16] Thus, the product can return to its natural shape and still provide the necessary support for the neck.

Turn it over after a few weeks.

Method 3 Choosing the right pillow for you

1
Consult a healthcare professional. If you have chronic neck pain and are seeing a professional, ask what type of pillow is suitable for your specific needs. That way, you can narrow down the list of options. [17]

  • Provide any relevant information to the doctor about your sleep, such as position, snoring or sleep apnea, or if you sweat heavily. He will know which specific brands are best for your needs.
  • Ask for a few different suggestions if you don't like one of the pillows. State whether you are using the pillow to sleep in bed or to travel, which may influence his suggestion.

2
Discover your dominance. This is your most comfortable and preferred sleeping position. Establishing dominance helps you determine the best type of pillow for you to sleep well through the night or during a long flight.[18] The most common sleep positions are:

  • Aside, which is the most common.
  • On the back, which is often associated with snoring and sleep apnea.
  • Face down, which can turn the neck more easily. [19]
  • A combination of the previous positions.
  • Travelers, who normally sleep in an upright position, slightly reclining or leaning on something. [20]

3
Look for the correct height and firmness. Each dominant position has different needs to maintain alignment and comfort. When purchasing the pillow, look for models with the proper firmness and height for your sleeping position. The following options are the most suitable for each type of dominant position:[21]

  • Side: A firm or extra firm pillow 10 cm high.
  • Back: A medium firm pillow with medium height when flat on the bed.
  • Face down: a thin, soft pillow, easily squeezable.
  • Combination of positions: a pillow with softer and firmer parts, with higher sides and a lower center for changing positions.
  • Travelers: pillows that provide maximum comfort for your specific needs and position. This includes neck support and the ability to shift in the seat. [22]

4
Take into account the material of the pillow. Just as firmness and height are important when choosing, the material also makes a difference. Materials such as memory foam or feathers may be better for certain positions than others. Consider the following options for a more comfortable night out depending on your position:[23]

  • Side: Contoured memory foam or latex foam.
  • On the back: feather, memory foam or latex foam.
  • Face down: feather, feather, feather alternative, polyester or fine latex foam.
  • Combination: buckwheat husk or pillows of various materials.
  • Travelers: memory foam, gel, plush fabric. [24]

Take other factors into account. Sleeping may seem pretty simple, but in fact, it sometimes turns out to be a little complex. Factors such as the type and size of mattress and the length of travel can play a role in your pillow choice, which also affect the type of neck pillow you will use. [25]

  • Think about the softness of your mattress. If it's too soft or soft, it can cause your body to sink a little deeper into the pillow. So you should choose a lower one.
  • Consider your body temperature. Do you feel too hot at night? If so, choose a refreshing gel and foam pillow or a buckwheat husk version.
  • Remember your body shape. If it's small, choose a smaller pillow to fit your body. [26]
  • Think about how you normally sleep when traveling. Do you change positions frequently and need a little more space? Buy a larger travel pillow that allows you to relax in the entire space. Keep in mind that these more scattered options can irritate passengers next to you. [27]
  • Make sure the pillow has been tested for allergies and is washable so it doesn't build up mites on the surface over time. [28] This can not only cause allergic reactions, but also change the weight and shape of the product. [29]

6
Try different pillows. Everyone's body is different. Part of having the right pillow is finding one that fits you and your body the best. Experiment with various options to be able to find the one that provides the best night's sleep for you. [30]

  • Remember, it takes 15 minutes to get used to a pillow and a week to see if it's working.[31]So it can be a little difficult to know exactly which one is best in a store. Ask employees what the rules are for exchanging or returning the product if it's not in your best interest.
  • Take your personal preference into consideration. If you like a specific pillow, this could be the deciding factor.

7
Make the choice. It's time to decide which pillow is best for you. Think of several factors such as your dominance when sleeping and how you sleep when traveling to make the final decision.

  • See again what is the rule for exchanges and returns of merchandise. If you cannot return it, even if it is very uncomfortable, find another option that can be returned.
  • Remember that you need to change your neck pillow every two years.[32]

Tips
Make a ponytail or bun so that it is in direct contact with the pillow.

What are the different types of pillows for pregnant women?

The main difference is due to its format. There are minhocão models, in C or U.
  • Minhocão. It is, as the name says, just like an earthworm. It has a long, rod-shaped shape that is completely malleable and can be bent in any way the pregnant woman wants.
  • Format in C. Allow the pregnant woman to fit this format. With this model the mother-to-be can dispense with the traditional pillow and support both her head and have support to keep her legs apart.
  • U- shaped model. Used to be the biggest of all. The pregnant woman must support her head in the closed part of the U, so she still has support for her back and legs. It involves the woman's entire body.

Is there a right position for the pregnant woman to sleep?

This is a frequent question for pregnant women. Not even doctors have a consensus on the risks of certain positions during pregnancy. In this section we'll explain all the points for you to ponder the information and have a peaceful and safe night's sleep.
The first point is that it is very important that you feel comfortable. Generally, pregnant women do not feel any discomfort in sleeping until the fifth month, when the belly actually starts to show. From the 20th week onwards, the mother-to-be can start to roll more in bed.

Until then, if you can, you can even sleep on your stomach. Your baby is well protected inside the uterus and nothing bad will happen to him. You probably won't be able to choose this position when your maternity belly starts to form. Thus, the lateral and belly-up positions remain.

The position most recommended by doctors is the left side of the body. The explanation for this is that this way you have better circulation of the bloodstream and consequently the blood flows better through the umbilical cord.

The left lateral position ends up providing more oxygen for the baby. As well as nutrients that pass through the cord. But keep in mind that you don't have to stay in this position all night, and if you wake up at dawn and find yourself on your back or on your right side, that's fine. There is no evidence that these positions are life-threatening for the baby.

However, if he manages to stay longer in the left lateral position, the better, for the reasons already explained.

Over the weeks, it will be a challenge to sleep on your back, or even on your right side, as it's normal to feel more breathless. Thus, naturally the pregnant woman ends up preferring the left lateral position.
