What happens to a woman's body when she enters menopause

It is a natural process of aging, which usually occurs in the 45 to 55 age group, but which can also be caused by surgery to remove the ovaries or the uterus (hysterectomy).

In the United Kingdom, the average age of menopause is 51 years; in Brazil , one of the most complete studies on the subject, published in 2010 by the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP), calculated an average age of 48.1 years.

So, what is behind these changes?
Menopause is caused by a reduction in the production of hormones, specifically estrogen.

It is crucial for the entire reproductive cycle - the development and release of an egg from the ovaries each month, and the process of thickening the lining of the uterus to receive the fertilized egg.

Over the years, the body gradually stops producing estrogen. But this does not happen overnight: it can take years for this hormone to reach low levels.

In this process, egg storage declines, gradually affecting the occurrence of ovulation, menstruation and pregnancy.

What is the impact of these hormonal changes?
The brain, skin, muscles and emotions are affected by the drop in estrogen levels; hot flashes, night sweats, sleep problems, anxiety, moodiness and loss of interest in sex are common.

Bladder problems and vaginal dryness are also normal during this period.

And many women experience these symptoms long before menstruation actually stops - a period called perimenopause.

When estrogen production stops completely, there is a long-term effect on bones and the heart. Bones can weaken, increasing the risk of fractures, and women can become more vulnerable to heart disease and stroke.

That is why some women receive so-called hormone replacement therapy, or HRT, which raises estrogen levels and helps relieve symptoms.

But not all women experience these symptoms. They can also vary in severity and duration - from a few months to several years.

What causes hot flashes?
Lack of estrogen. It is also involved in controlling body temperature in the brain.

When this hormone is lacking, the "thermostat" is unstable and the brain thinks the body is overheating - when it is not.

Does estrogen affect mood as well?
Yes, it can happen.

The hormone interacts with chemicals in brain receptors that control mood. At low levels, it can cause anxiety and moodiness.

The lack of estrogen can also affect the skin, causing it to become dry or giving the sensation as if insects are crawling under the skin.

Are there other hormones involved in menopause?
Yes, progesterone and testosterone - but they don't have the same impact as low estrogen levels.

Progesterone helps prepare the body for pregnancy each month, and decreases when menstruation stops.

Testosterone, which women produce at low levels, has been linked to sexual desire and energy levels. It declines from the age of 30, and only a small number of women need it at high levels.

How do you know if you are going through this process?
It is possible to have a blood test to measure the levels of a hormone called FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) - but the results may not be very accurate, especially at age around 45.

Experts say the hormone levels go up and down all the time, even over the course of a day, so there is always a risk that the test will be inaccurate.

The best way to make this diagnosis is to talk to a general practitioner or a nursing professional about your menstrual pattern and any symptoms you are experiencing.

It is good to know which symptoms to watch for - feeling irritable or feeling "low" weighs as much as the heat and night sweats.

Changes in menstruation, such as when it becomes more intense or irregular, are one of the first signs of approaching menopause.

But you will only be sure that you have reached menopause when you have not had a period for a year.

And then?
The levels of estrogen in the body do not recover after menopause.

With the increase in life expectancy, women are living more than a third of their lives with estrogen deficiency.

But there is no reason to be intimidated, says gynecologist Heather Currie, a menopause specialist and former president of the British Menopause Society.

"Women continue to work later in life, they still look incredible. The image of menopause is changing."

His advice: "If you are affected, visit a doctor and get information".

"Women should know what symptoms to watch for."

She says there is a lot of support and information to help women deal with the physical and emotional changes that menopause brings.

Today, hormone replacement therapy is seen as the most effective treatment available for menopausal symptoms.

It can cause side effects, and there have been uncertainties about its long-term safety.

But there is evidence that "the benefits of HRT outweigh the risks," says Currie.

Talking to other women going through menopause and sharing reports of the same symptoms is also a real help, she adds.

And menopause is another good reason for women to lead a healthy lifestyle, such as:

  • having a balanced diet, low in fat and high in calcium to strengthen bones and protect the heart;
  • exercise regularly, reducing anxiety and stress;
  • stop smoking, preventing heart disease and hot flashes;
  • do not drink too much, also reducing hot flashes.

How to Wash Your Vagina

The vagina is a delicate part of the body that needs the right care to stay clean and healthy . The vagina itself (the canal leading to the cervix) is self-cleaning and does not need to be washed. However, it is important to clean the vulva (the outside of the genitals) and the area around the anus to avoid infections and irritations in the vagina. Clean the area every day to keep it fresh. Also, prolong the feeling of cleanliness with proper hygiene habits, such as wearing breathable cotton panties and cleaning yourself from front to back when using the bathroom.

Method 1 Adopting a daily cleaning routine

1
Wash the outside of the vagina at least once a day. Throughout the day, sweat and moisture can accumulate in the genital region, providing the perfect environment for the proliferation of bacteria and fungi. Wash the area while bathing to avoid infection and unpleasant odors.[1]

  • If you are menstruating, it is best to wash the area more than once a day.

2
Use a neutral, unscented soap to wash the vulva. Use warm water and a mild, fragrance-free product to clean the area. Strong, perfumed soaps can irritate the vulva and vagina, unbalancing the pH, which can cause infections.[two]

  • Some people use soaps with light scents without any problem, but it is better to change to an odorless and hypoallergenic one if you have a tendency to infections and irritation.
  • You can use your fingers or a very soft washcloth to clean the vulva, but don't even think about abrasive towels or loofahs. The area may be irritated if you rub it hard. [3]

3
Spread your big lips apart and clean the folds around your clitoris. When cleaning, remember to wash all skin folds around the vagina. Spread your big lips and massage the skin inside and out. Don't forget the “capinha” that protects the clitoris, known as the foreskin, and the entrance to the vagina. [4]

  • Avoid using soap on the inside of the vagina, as it can become dry and irritated.

4
Clean the anal area last. After you finish cleaning the vulva, move on to the perineum (the region between the vagina and the anus) and finish with the anus and the part between the buttocks. Always start at the front and go back when finished to avoid spreading bacteria from the anus to the vagina.[5]

  • If you go the other way and start from the back, you risk developing a vaginal infection or a urinary tract infection .

5
Rinse all the soap when finished. After cleaning the entire genitals, rinse it thoroughly with warm water. Remove all foam and product residues, as the delicate skin of the region may become dry or irritated if soap is left over. [6]

  • If you use a showerhead, be careful not to direct the jet into the vagina. If water enters the vaginal canal, it can cause irritation, unbalance the local pH or introduce unwanted bacteria into the uterus.[7]

6
Dry the area by tapping it with a clean towel. After cleaning and rinsing, use a clean, dry towel to pat and wipe away any moisture in the area. However, do not rub to avoid irritation. [8]

  • You can also gently dry the vulva and groin using a hairdryer in the cold temperature and with the weakest spray.

7
Don't even think about making vaginal showers, using perfumed wipes or deodorants. There are thousands of products on the market that claim to promote good vaginal hygiene and leave the region smelling good. However, these same products can cause irritation and eliminate good bacteria, which is great for causing infections. Never use perfumed products on the vulva or vagina and do not use any type of shower unless the doctor recommends it. [9]

  • Avoid taking frequent baths with scents and scented oils for the same reason.

Did you know? A healthy vagina has a population of beneficial bacteria that keeps bad fungi and bacteria in check. When good bacteria are harmed, unwanted organisms can increase in quantity and cause an infection.[10]

Method 2 Maintaining good vaginal hygiene

1
Wear cotton panties to avoid irritation and decrease humidity. Synthetic materials like nylon and polyester trap moisture in the genital area, providing an ideal environment for dangerous bacteria and fungi. [11] Avoid the problem by wearing breathable cotton panties and changing the underwear every day or whenever the area gets wet and sweaty.

  • Avoid flossing and tight pants, as these pieces make the vulva hot and moist, causing irritation. [12]
  • It's good to sleep without panties or just with wide cotton shorts.

2
Wash new panties before using them. Newly purchased underwear may have residues of paint or aggressive chemicals that irritate the vulva and vagina. Always wash them thoroughly before putting them on for the first time. [13]

  • When washing underwear, use a mild, fragrance-free soap. It is also a good idea to select a double rinse if using the machine, removing all residues.

3
Clean yourself from front to back after using the bathroom. Whenever you use the bathroom, pass the toilet paper from the vagina towards the anus, even if you just peed. The opposite movement can bring bacteria from the anal area to the vagina or urethra, increasing the risk of a vaginal or urinary infection.[14]

  • Avoid any type of toilet paper that contains perfumes, dyes or lotions, as they can irritate the vulva. Prefer the common white version. [15]

4
Clean yourself with mineral oil after evacuating if you are unable to handle only the toilet paper. Doctors do not recommend the use of baby wipes, even without fragrance, for this function. If it is difficult to stay clean after going to the bathroom, you can make things easier by putting a little bit of mineral oil or unscented soap on the toilet paper. Rinse with a little water after you finish and dry. [16]

  • Some studies show that the use of feminine wipes, in addition to causing pain and irritation, can greatly increase the chances of urinary tract infection. [17]

5
Take off your wet clothes right after swimming or exercising. After getting wet or perspiring heavily, change your wet clothes on the spot and dry yourself well. [18] Staying with wet or sweaty parts can promote the proliferation of harmful fungi and bacteria in the region of the vagina.

  • It is also a good idea to bathe as soon as you exercise or swim to remove sweat, dirt or chlorine.

6
Change the pad frequently during menstruation. Do not skimp on absorbents regardless of flow. [19] Never use a tampon for more than eight hours to avoid toxic shock syndrome . Change the pad at least every four hours, even if the flow is not intense. [20]

  • Do not use scented pads and prefer products made from cotton only if you can. [21]

7
Use a condom during sex and pee right away to avoid infections. If you have an active sex life, it is possible to reduce your risk of getting an STD (sexually transmitted disease) or a bacterial infection by using a condom at all times. [22] Ask your partner to put one on or use a female condom .

  • It is also a good idea to urinate and bathe right after sex.[24] Thus, bacteria, sweat and other bodily secretions that can contribute to bacterial infection or candidiasis are eliminated.

Caution: Washing the area after sex can help prevent problems such as a urinary tract infection, but it does not provide protection against STDs or pregnancy . The condom is the safest way to prevent sexually transmitted diseases.[23] In addition, it is a great contraceptive method, especially when combined with other forms, such as birth control pills.

8
Try a sitz bath with baking soda to reduce excess odor and secretion. A slight characteristic odor and most vaginal secretions are two natural and healthy things. However, if you are uncomfortable, you can use baking soda to clean the vulva and minimize odors. Fill the bottom of a bathtub with water at room temperature and add 4 or 5 tablespoons (60 to 75 g) of baking soda. Stay in the bathtub for ten minutes, one to three times a day. [25]

  • The sitz bath with bicarbonate can also help to reduce itching and burning if you have an irritated area or if you have an infection.

Tips
  • When you notice a strong and unpleasant odor in the vagina or when you notice signs of infection, such as redness, itching, burning or a different discharge, make an appointment with a gynecologist. He can find out the cause of the symptoms and treat the condition correctly. [26]
  • Nowadays, many women choose to shave or trim pubic hair thinking it is for hygiene, but studies show that hair removal is useless, besides preventing pubic pediculosis (popularly known as boring).[27]If you want to get rid of hair, it is safer to trim it than to shave the area with razor, wax or depilatory creams. [28]

9 tips for maintaining healthy intimate hygiene

Let him throw the first stone who never searched the internet for videos about hair care, or stopped what he was doing to read that article about stronger nails. And there are those who do not dispense with skin care and do not leave home without sunscreen!

Cool, you know how to take care of your skin, hair, nails ... but what about your pepeka? Do you know how to do intimate hygiene the right way? It seems like an obvious question, but did you know that many habits that may seem hygienic are extremely harmful to your health?

To clarify all doubts on how to take care of your intimate hygiene, we have separated 9 tips that every person who has a vagina should know. Just take a look and see if you are taking good care of your ppk!

# 1 Connect on the move: clean from front to back

This tip is basic and should be taught even when we are little children. After peeing, it is best to clean yourself from front to back, do you know why? Because that way you avoid bringing forward bacteria from the anus that are harmful to your intimate region.

If you're going to poop, same thing! Front to back, keeping the paper as far away from your vagina as possible. At these times washing with water or using a neutral wet wipe can be even better!

# 2 You don't need to wash the vagina [but the vulva does!]

Jeez, how so? Calm down that we explain. Your vagina is very smart and self-cleaning, as it has a naturally perfect ph [Pause to revere this wonder!]. Then you can forget about a vaginal shower or any other type of internal "cleaning", because in addition to being unnecessary, they can change your pH and make the region more susceptible to infections. I'm out!

So how do you wash? Miga, you need to wash only the EXTERNAL region, also known as vulva! Only with your fingers you can gently wash those “pleats” with all the care so as not to hurt and that's it! It's very clean!

# 3 Intimate soap: use sparingly

Have you ever heard that everything in excess is bad? Then! This same rule applies to the use of intimate soaps. It's okay to use it once in a while, but it won't be too much!

Have the common soaps that we use in the bath you should keep away from ppk! That's because they can unbalance the vaginal ph, which as we have seen, is naturally perfect! And if it is bar soap, it only gets worse, as it can accumulate harmful bacteria that will come in contact with the intimate region.

Now amaze! Did you know that you only need water to wash your intimate area? That's right! Washing with water alone is enough to keep the intimate area clean and healthy. You didn't expect this one, did you?

# 4 Exchange the disposable daily protectors for reusable ones!

Yeah, you can't deny that sometimes we need a panty protector. There is nothing that bothers you more than wet panties all day. But believe me, disposable pant protectors are not the solution! Not only do they damage your vaginal health, they can even increase the amount of secretion!

The disposable daily protectors have plastic layers that prevent the skin from breathing and leave that warm and stuffy environment perfect for the proliferation of bacteria. And there is our ppk susceptible to infections again! In addition, they have super harmful chemical components. But as our body is perfect, do you know what it does when it detects the presence of these unknown components? Increases vaginal discharge! That's right! The body's natural defense produces this extra secretion as a way to prevent possible infections! It is worth taking the test, after a few weeks without using, the secretion decreases!

But how to survive without the protectors during those weeks or even after them with the smallest secretion, but still uncomfortable? Yes, there is a solution! The reusable pant protectors are made 100% in cotton, which is a very absorbent fabric, totally hypoallergenic and super breathable! When the skin breathes, moisture does not accumulate and bacteria do not proliferate. In addition, these daily cloth protectors are completely chemical-free, so their use does not generate an increase in vaginal discharge! And you also save and preserve the environment! Wow, super awesome right?

# 5 Let her breathe! How about sleeping without panties?

Let your pepeka breathe! Yes, there is the option of cloth pant protectors, but that does not mean that they must be used continuously. It is important that the vaginal region breathes freely at least at certain times of the day. If you have intense or uncomfortable vaginal secretions, a tip is to use the panty protector during the day and sleep without it, so the skin can breathe free of any barrier!

So you already know: happy ppk, it's ppk that breathes! Have you ever imagined taking care of your intimate region while sleeping? Then try sleeping even without panties. That does a damned good thing!

# 6 Pee after sex!

At the time of sexual intercourse, your vagina comes into contact with various bacteria from elsewhere. And these evil bacteria can reach the urethra and there you have it! You know that boring urinary tract infection? Yes, it can originate at that moment!

A good way to avoid this is to pee after intercourse to get rid of these bacteria that have reached the urinary tract. The ideal would be to take a shower before and after sex. But as we know that this is not always possible, a pee after the vuco-vuco already helps a lot.

# 7 Never let your panties dry in the bathroom stall!

There is nothing wrong with washing your panties in the bath using a neutral soap. The problem is leaving the panties drying in the box. The bathroom is a humid region, so your panties will take longer to dry and you know what that means? Proliferation of bacteria and fungi that can cause infections, such as candidiasis!

If you are in the habit of washing your underwear in the bath, take your panties to dry on the clothesline, in a dry and airy environment.

# 8 Take extra care when you are menstruating!

Who still uses disposable absorbent should be even more attentive to avoid infections. This is because, once again, disposable pads can smother the intimate region and create that perfect environment for bacteria to proliferate. And disposable tampons can cause the vaginal area to dry out, making our ppk susceptible to infections again.

Alternatives such as the menstrual cup , the absorbent cloth and the absorbent panties can be more economical and healthier choices than disposable pads. Have you thought about trying any of these products?

# 9 Mucus and a strange smell: know when your vagina doesn't feel right!

If your vagina smells like strawberry, chocolate or mint then something is wrong there. The vagina must smell like the vagina! Accept the natural smell of your ppk. Of course, if you notice a different or very strong odor, it's time to see your doctor, but in general, ppk should smell like ppk. Deodorants and flavored products can cause allergies and irritate your vagina. So better to avoid.

One more thing: having a discharge is normal! The famous cervical mucus changes color and texture depending on which period of the menstrual cycle you are in. Sometimes it can be more transparent or more yellowish white. It is really only a problem when you notice a different color or strong odor. Then it's time to make an appointment. Otherwise, everything complies!

Fight skin irritation after epilation with seven tips

After waxing or using a razor, the skin requires some care to avoid the risk of allergy and irritation

There are several methods of hair removal and all of them can be harmful to the skin if not done well. Even so, it is common that the skin does not adapt, presenting allergy or irritation . So it is important to adopt some precautions before and after epilating , either with wax or razor .

The hair removal with blade is considered the fastest method and can be the only possible in situations that requires agility (even if it's not your favorite). This can occur in the middle of a long-lasting procedure, such as laser hair removal , which is done in sessions with intervals of one month between each one - but the hair grows back in this period, or simply in the rush of the routine.

Epilation with razor or depilatory cream
These two types of hair removal can cause ingrown hairs ( folliculitis ) or skin irritation after hair removal ; in sensitive skin, this tends to happen more frequently. It is also not recommended to use moisturizers either before or after, since, in most cases, they contain alcohol in their composition and this can irritate the skin.

And if the moisturizer does not contain alcohol, is it okay? Yes, and vegetable fats and oils are great as they have soothing and emollient properties, preparing the skin for hair removal . And that goes for both body waxing and shaving . Some examples widely used for skin are the shea butter , which soothes irritated skin after shaving , the almond oil and grape seed oil .

Because they are of vegetable origin, these moisturizing oils greatly reduce the chances of allergies and irritations after hair removal . In addition, they function as a protective layer for the skin due to its various active ingredients (which vary slightly according to the chosen vegetable oil, but all of them have high moisturizing power).

Relief for skin irritation after epilation
It is not only vegetable oil that helps in the post- waxing recovery process . The best way to avoid skin irritation after epilation is to adopt precautionary techniques when epilating . This way you prevent the irritation or allergy from appearing and you don't have to worry about them after waxing . Check out a step by step to keep your skin healthy even after waxing :

  • Be sure to exfoliate your skin at least once a week to remove dead cells. It's just not worth doing this just before or after shaving - otherwise you will hurt your skin. Do a natural scrub three days before and three days after epilation. It's just not worth using microplastic scrubs , huh?
  • Begin the hair removal process by thoroughly cleaning your skin with mild soap and warm water to open your pores;
  • Pass the vegetable oil of your choice, massaging the skin with circular movements as long as you can to lubricate the threads and protect the skin;
  • Prepare a warm cloth and make a compress on the area to be shaved for 30 seconds;
  • If using a blade, epilate under the shower using hot water, as this opens the pores and increases the oil's emollient effect. Do your epilation slowly and keep your hairs always wet when shaving;
  • When you finish your epilation, wash your skin thoroughly with cold water to close your pores. Cold chamomile tea or hydrolates (which you can get here ) are good options as a post-procedure because of their calming actions.
  • Remember that the use of vegetable oil, as well as moisturizer, is not recommended before hair removal processes that remove hair from the root, such as those that use wax - these substances soften the hair, which makes it more difficult to pull it off. But if it is after hair removal, the moisturizing effect is still valid.

Use 100% pure oils, from cold pressing and that do not contain chemical solvents or parabens. In the eCycle Shop there are several vegetable oils. Click here and check it out.

What is the Glycerin Enema for and how to do it

The glycerin enema is a rectal solution, which contains the active ingredient Glycerol, which is indicated for the treatment of constipation, to perform radiological examinations of the rectum and during intestinal lavage, as it has lubrication and humidifying properties of the feces.

The glycerin enema is usually applied directly to the rectum, through the anus, using a small applicator probe that comes with the product, specific to the application.

Glycerin is stored in packs of 250 to 500 mL of the solution, with each mL generally containing 120 mg of the active ingredient. This medicine can be purchased at major pharmacies, with a prescription.

What is it for
The glycerin enema works by helping to eliminate feces from the intestine, as it retains water in the intestine by stimulating bowel movements. It is indicated for:

  • Treatment of constipation;
  • Bowel cleansing before and after surgery;

Preparation for an opaque enema exam, also known as an opaque enema, which uses x-ray and contrast to study the shape and function of the large intestine and rectum. Understand what it is for and how to take this exam .
To treat constipation, glycerin is usually indicated when there is a recurrent constipation and difficult to treat. Check out the ills of using laxative remedies frequently .

How to use
The glycerin enema is applied directly rectally, and the concentration, the amount of the product and the number of applications will depend on the doctor's recommendation, according to the indication and the needs of each person.

In general, the recommended minimum dose is 250 mL per day up to a maximum of 1000 mL per day, for a standard 12% solution, and treatment should not exceed 1 week.

For application, the product does not need to be diluted, and must be made in a single dose. The application is made with an applicator probe, which comes with the packaging, which must be used as follows:

  • Insert the tip of the applicator probe into the tip of the enema package, making sure that it is inserted into the base;
  • Insert the flow tube from the applicator probe into the rectum and press the ampoule;
  • Carefully remove the material and then discard it. Check out more application tips on how to make an enema at home .
  • An alternative to the enema is the use of glycerin suppository, which is applied in a more practical way. Check when the glycerin suppository is indicated .

In addition, glycerin can be diluted with saline solution for an intestinal lavage and, in these cases, a thin tube is inserted through the anus, which releases drops in the intestine, over a few hours, until the intestinal content is eliminated and the intestine is clean.

Possible side effects
As the glycerin enema is a locally acting medication, not being absorbed into the body, side effects are uncommon. However, bowel cramps and diarrhea are expected to arise from increased bowel movements.

Other possible side effects are rectal bleeding, anal irritation, dehydration and symptoms of an allergic skin reaction, such as redness, itching and swelling. In the presence of these signs and symptoms it is necessary to seek medical attention immediately.

12 natural deodorants to take care of your body and the environment

Until recently, natural deodorants - often in novel formats such as creams, sticks and lozenges - were manufactured and sold for people with delicate skin who were looking for the least aggressive product possible. However, in recent years, the evolution of the cosmetic market, social changes and that tendency to lead a life as sustainable as possible, have made a product like the deodorant we use every day no longer just that.

If before we only asked it to smell good and eliminate sweat, now we are looking for much more ... and, among all those new features, that it be ecological, natural and in accordance with our zero-waste philosophy that respects the environment. Also, of course, that it is not antiperspirant, that it is not aerosol and that it does not contain aluminum salts.

Fortunately, there are more and more natural deodorants that cover all these needs. These are natural, toxic-free, ecological and 100% healthy formulas that are made from essential oils. And there is to choose: in format, in texture and, of course, in price. Here are 12 of the best options on the market.

Weleda sage spray
The best-selling brand in this format, with more than 1,000 opinions on Amazon. Totally natural and with a herbal aroma, it provides a long-lasting refreshing fragrance and does not alter the body's natural regulatory functions. It can be used, as well as a deodorant, as a refreshing body spray.

Same spray format, this time made from thyme, which provides a delicate aroma and a refreshing sensation on the skin. Suitable for the whole family and also as a refreshing body spray.

The same product as the one described in the roll-on section, but this time in spray format. Ideal for sensitive or irritated skin and formulated with plant extracts.

The most advertised deodorant in recent weeks. In an innovative format and brand used by celebrities. It is assuming a complete revolution, since it is a cream that is applied only once to obtain several days without a bad smell (from 2 to 7, as indicated by the brand). SANON Alum stone
The natural remedy against excess sweating par excellence and one of the best sellers on Amazon. It is applied in a roll-on way and creates an invisible film of mineral salt microcrystals on the armpit that eliminates bad odors and acts as a natural bactericide.

10 ways to fight dry eyes when humidity is low

Those who live in regions where the drought is prolonged know that low humidity can bring a series of discomforts, such as difficulty in breathing, some diseases and, of course, dry eyes. This last one, in fact, can be a big problem, since it hinders the vision and causes discomfort such as the sensation of sand in the eyes.

But, while the rain does not arrive and if you do not intend to change the region, you must learn to deal with the dryness of time and the whole body. In the list below, as you will see, there are some tips that can help in this mission.

Most of them will help not only to fight dry eyes, but to keep the body properly hydrated to face the low humidity. These tricks should even be learned by people from Brasília and the region, where the weather is so dry that the government declared a state of attention.

Now, be alert: if the tips below are not effective in fighting your discomfort, seek an ophthalmologist. Although low humidity contributes a lot to dry eyes, some diseases can also cause this effect.

Discover how to fight dry eyes:

1. Apply the 20-minute technique

Throughout the day, if you are connected to work with computers, smartphones and other displays, take breaks every 20 minutes, on average, and look at some other point further away, such as a window or a painting, for example.

This serves to prevent the eyes from drying out too much since as we look at the illuminated electronic screens the tendency is for us to blink less.

2. Use humidifiers

It sounds like a silly tip, but the daily use of humidifiers on low humidity days doesn't just improve breathing. Dry eyes also benefit a lot from this habit, as it makes the environment more humid and reduces the dryness of the skin, eyes and even hair.

3. Drink water

Keeping your body hydrated is one of the most efficient ways to avoid dry eye problems. To do this, drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day. This will keep your whole body grateful on days of low humidity.

4. Consume omega-3

Fish, avocado and even supplementation of this nutrient will help a lot to fight dry eyes at any time of the year.

5. Reduce sugar consumption

Not only do the drinks you sweeten have sugar, did you know? Soda, sweet foods and even pasta made with white flour contribute to the increase in blood sugar. The result of this, among other negative consequences, is the lack of hydration in the eyes.

6. Make hot compresses

Using warm compresses on your eyes is also a great way to combat dry eyes. To do this, place a warm cloth over your eyes, or tea bags (which already help to soothe your skin and fight dark circles), for at least 1 minutes.

This helps to melt the oils that can clog the tear glands, for example.

7. Use eye drops

Neutral eye drops, indicated to lubricate the eyes, are a very efficient way against dry eyes, at least when it comes to immediate relief. But, do not overdo the use, as the eye drops are still a medicine.

8. Wash with baby shampoo

It seems strange, but this type of shampoo does not irritate the eyes and still cleans the eyelashes and all this region of the residues that dry weather leaves on the skin.

9. Avoid fans

Although they help against the heat, fans and other devices that cause directed winds are terrible for the eyes and tend to make them dry out.

10. Blink more

A natural way to fight dry eyes is to police yourself to blink more. Unless you suffer from an eye problem, when you blink more often the moisture in your eyes increases and cleans impurities that can cause irritation, for example.
